Next Stop - Williamstown (Montpelier), VT

The drive to VT was just beautiful!  Our tour host gives us specific directions to the next location and they are usually not on the interstates.  Since travel days are seldom more than 120 miles, taking the back roads is a real treat even though it was raining.

Fellow RVers "pave the way".

And then we reached VT.  So far it is our favorite state.

Along the way we stopped for lunch in a little town and the view above greeted us as we got out of the motor home.  The leaves are incredible!

Saw this sign in the restuarant and had an immediate attitude adjustment.

The meal was great (probably because of the attitude adjustment!) and we enjoyed listening to the locals talk.

Here we are waiting to take our tour of Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream factory.

Nancy was trying to attract other cows with her personal moo.  Didn't work!

A flavor for the Brannon family who are big fish fans (Dolphins).

The most popular flavor (Cherry Garcia).  Says who?!

 Cabot Cheese factory...

...and Cold Hollow Cider Mill.  The cider donuts were wonderful.

This was one of our favorite tours.  It is the Trapp (as in The Sound of Music) Family Lodge.  After leaving Austria during WWII, the family settled in Vermont.

We had a wonderful dinner at the lodge with our fellow RVers.  The waitresses were dressed in Austrian attire.

This is Maria von Trapp's great-granddaughter who led our tour.  In the winter when she is not giving tours, she is a professional skier and makes her home in Aspen, CO.

Several of the von Trapp family members are buried in this cemetery next to the lodge.  The above grave is that of Maria and the Captain.

This is the view from one of our campsites.  The leaves had not been long in the change at this point, but the reflection in the lake made it a photo op.

We toured the Vermont State House located in Montpelier.  It is small but VT is a small state.  It is full of history and has been maintained beautifully.

The House of Representatives.  The chairs across the front are for the senators when they gather for such events as the the governor's State of the State address.  In both the Senate and the House the members sit behind tables with lifting tops, resembling school desks of the early years, which serve as their desks.  They do not have offices, secretaries, pages or any other staff.  They share a few staffers who support all of the members.  It sounds like they may actually have it right!

Chandelier in Governor's Office.

From the steps of the Capitol you see the MVD building -- not nearly as impressive, but with a beautiful backdrop of color.

Saw this cabbage along the walkway to the Capitol.  They are used quite a bit for decorative purposes in the landscaping.  This one is about 14-15 inches in width.

We toured the Morse Farm Maple Sugarworks.

The area has the world's largest mine producing granite.  Many of the workers were given the opportunity to design their own gravestones which are found in the Hope Cemetary.  It is unbelievable the extent they went to, to carve special headstones for their family's resting place.

Children's names of this couple are engraved on the links.

"If you met Daniel Morrell Vrooman and forgot him, you have lost nothing.  But if you met Jesus Christ and forgot him, you have lost everything."

Soccer player?

Car lover/racer?

Airline pilot?

Can't remember who this guy was but he certainly didn't want his family to forget!

The Rock of Ages granite company owns a very large granite quarry and supplies monuments all over the world.  Unfortunately, it was raining when we left for the tour and we decided to not take the camera.  What a mistake.  We did go back with the camera but couldn't get to the quarry and the area was really fogged in.  The only other picture we could get was of the cast off piles of granite along the road.

God hath made everything beautiful in His time.
